There is a category of mobile games that take one idea: to get behind the wheel of a heavy car and wade through mud and rocks to where an ordinary car would not go. Off Road implements this idea well — and spoils it with details that could have been avoided.

Visually, the game keeps the level above average. Deformable mud, snowy hills, rocky plateaus - each location feels different. A light jeep and a heavy truck react to the same slope differently, physics honestly conveys this. The fleet is decent, the tuning makes sense to move on, and it all works without the Internet.

The online mode is present, but it turns the race into a lottery: out of sync between cars, collisions with air and periodic departures.

Monetization is a separate story. Every few minutes, right during check-in, a window pops up with an offer to buy a subscription. Which, by the way, is valid for only 30 days. The controls will also disappoint those who are waiting for the steering wheel or accelerometer — only virtual buttons.

The game works perfectly for offline races for your own pleasure. Everything else requires patience.
